But Hetty Roach, from Appleton, will be climbing Mount Kilimanjaro in Tazania – the highest single free-standing mountain in the world – in October. Together with her cousin Olivia Hughes, and three friends Charlotte Platt, Taylor O’Neill and Tierney Gilson, the 24-year-old will be climbing 5,895 metres to the top of Africa’s highest peak in October to raise money for Muscular Distrophy UK. Hetty’s cousin and Olivia’s brother Ed Hughes has Duchenne’s Muscular Dsytrophy (DMD), which is a rare genetic condition that weakens the muscles and affects the ability to carry out daily tasks. ....
