OAKLAND, Calif. (KGO) An Asian gas station owner is speaking out after an explosive, racially-charged confrontation at his store in Oakland.
Cwell, who doesn t want to reveal his last name, has owned the station along Broadway for about 20 years. He says he s used to dealing with all kinds of customers, but it was a customer who came in at around 11 a.m. Thursday wanting to pay with a pile of quarters that ultimately landed him in the ER.
OAKLAND, Calif. (KGO) A man is facing a homicide charge following the death Thursday of an elderly Asian man, Alameda County prosecutors said Thursday.
Teaunte Bailey, 26, allegedly pushed Pak Ho to the pavement and robbed him Tuesday morning in the Adams Point neighborhood of Oakland. Ho, 75, fell and suffered a head injury and brain damage, according to prosecutors.
Ho was on a regular morning walk, prosecutors said.
Bailey is also facing first degree robbery and assault charges. Bailey last month allegedly broke into an apartment where a 72-year-old man was living. Bailey allegedly shoved the man, took his phone, and stole other items.
An Oakland woman is sending an important message after a horrifying daytime attack and robbery in West Oakland that was caught on camera on Lunar New Year.
Police scoured the neighborhood Tuesday afternoon as they looked for clues. Hours later, Oakland Police announced an arrest in the case.
Those who know the victim tell ABC7 News it doesn t look like he is going to make it.
The man was walking as he normally does with his cane when witnesses described seeing an older, possibly brown truck with two people inside. At least one person was then involved in pushing the victim s cane away, shoving him to the ground, and taking his wallet and phone.
WEST OAKLAND, Calif. (KGO) In West Oakland a woman says she was attacked and her car was stolen on Lunar New Year.
Ari Daoheuang was on her way home after work Friday afternoon when she says four people attacked her.
She says she was pistol-whipped, and that the suspects stole her keys and took off with her car, which is not seen in the video.
She just wants to send a message to the community - speak out if you see something like this happen. It was a neighbor that jumped in to help Ari. The street was full, there were cars everywhere there were two businesses that were open. I think if someone would have. A few people would have opened their windows and said, We see you! We re recording! Pull out your phones or something, there were so many ways people could have made me feel like I wasn t alone, Ari said.
In Oakland s Chinatown, community leaders are going public with their pleas for help in combating an increase in violent crime, an effort deemed especially important with the Lunar New Year celebration kicking into high gear. It s about trust, that person will help provide information to seniors and businesses on what they need to do to report crime, said Carl Chan President of Oakland Chinatown Chamber of Commerce.
In a statement mayor Libby Schaaf said, The horrific targeting of victims based on race or nationality has no place in our diverse, sanctuary city of Oakland. We will restore these officers - as so many in the community have demanded while at the same time invest in non-police safety measures as well.
