Each year, graduating students from Oregon Tech are selected to represent their college of study as commencement speakers at the annual ceremony. Representing the Class of 2021 are Josie Page Hanel, Christian Gomez, and Walker M. York for the Oregon Institute of Technology virtual commencement ceremony June 12, 2021.

As a first-generation college student from Lakeview, Josie attributes her success to the support of her parents, grandparents, TOP advisors and her faculty members. Josie’s campus involvement includes being an active member of Kappa Xi Alpha sorority and participating in many campus and community service events. SOU Will Join Colleges Across Oregon By Requiring COVID Vaccinations This Fall

Southern Oregon University will require students, faculty and staff who will be on campus this fall to get a COVID-19 vaccine or show proof of a medical or nonmedical exemption.
University President Linda Schott says today’s announcement was meant to inform the campus community that vaccinations will be required, though the details of that policy are being discussed.
“What we wanted to do today was let people know where we’re headed. Because some students feel strongly and faculty and staff that they don’t want to be back on campus unless they’re confident that there are going to be a lot of people that are vaccinated,” Schott says. ....

UO, WOU will require COVID-19 vaccine for in-person classes

The University of Oregon will require students and faculty to have the COVID-19 vaccine to attend fall in-person classes.
UO President Michael Schill made the announcement Monday afternoon, making UO the fourth public university in Oregon to create the new requirement.
Over the past couple of weeks, university leadership engaged in broad discussions with a wide variety of experts and stakeholders, including students, faculty, and staff, to develop our policy on COVID-19 vaccinations, Schill stated in the announcement. We have concluded that to protect the health and safety of our university community and the communities we serve, the University of Oregon will require students, faculty and staff who will be on campus to be vaccinated prior to the start of the fall 2021 academic term. ....

A special event was held on May 7 to celebrate the academic success of nontraditional students involved in Oregon Institute of Technology’s Tech Opportunities Program (TOP). President of the university, Dr. Nagi Naganathan, and Dean of Students, Dr. Erin Foley, recognized 102 TOP students who made the President’s and Dean’s Honors list for either fall 2020 or winter 2021 terms.
Oregon Tech’s TOP powers the potential of first-generation students, low-income students, and students with disabilities who demonstrate academic need. The program annually serves 160 students. The dedicated staff provides services and support in the following areas: ....
