A local company hopes to bring new, crystal-clear radio signals on DAB across Oldham. Credible Focus Ltd are bidding to provide the town with new technology and a new transmitter to ensure small radio stations can continue to broadcast in the digital age. DAB is a new way of receiving radio signals, which removes the need for crackly FM and AM radio, bringing high quality audio into the home and car. Many services can be carried on a very narrow signal (a multiplex), meaning an increase in choice for the listener. The Oldham/Rochdale area is one of the areas to be advertised by Ofcom today, who are inviting applicants to operate the new multiplex. ....
Bidder for Oldham & Rochdale DAB announces plans A consortium made up of Sunrise Radio, the former owners of Revolution Radio, and three local community radio stations is applying for the upcoming small-scale DAB multiplex in Oldham & Rochdale. The project is driven by Credible Media, which recently sold Revolution to Bauer and Infocus Digital Media, the digital arm of Sunrise Radio, which was involved in the successful bid for the Leeds ssDAB multiplex awarded earlier this year. Community services on board include Oldham Community Radio, North Manchester FM, and Crescent Radio in Rochdale. Kevin Bailey, Content Director at Credible Media and Bid Lead, said local collaboration was an important consideration for the consortium: “We’re delighted to be applying to run a multiplex in our local area. We know that Ofcom value access to digital broadcasting and a variety of services on DAB. ....
The best of community support and broadcasting has been recognised at the 2020 Community Radio Awards. Like most events this year, the night was available online for community radio volunteers and staff to view in their own homes. Continuing the tradition, the event was hosted by last year’s Male gold recipient, Sam Day from Future Radio, with awards presented by a multitude of judges and sponsors. Martin Steers, awards chair, told RadioToday: “This year has not been what we expected, but community radio has really stepped up to the plate and served its communities more than ever. “The work we’ve seen this year is phenomenal, and we’re delighted to be able to help recognise this. We’re already planning next year’s awards, and hope to gather again in person once more!” ....
