Lisa Montgomery, a longtime Kansan, became the first woman to be executed by the federal government in 67 years early Wednesday. She lived a childhood so abusive her attorneys call it akin to torture.
She was beaten, repeatedly raped by her stepfather and his friends and sexually trafficked by her mother.
At 18, she married her stepbrother, who also beat and raped her. She had four children in less than four years before being sterilized. She lapsed increasingly into mental illness and repeatedly faked pregnancy.
But those who believe she should be put to death say her lifetime of horrors can t excuse what came next: On Dec. 16, 2004, she loaded a steak knife, umbilical cord clamps and part of a clothesline into her car and drove 175 miles from her home in east-central Kansas to the northwest Missouri home of Bobbie Jo Stinnett, an expectant mother she had met at a dog show. ....

New Year’s Snowfall Blankets Parts Of Green Country
A new year brought a fresh blanket of snow for many in Green Country. Several inches were left on the ground in some areas of Rogers County.
The view from the Osage County Courthouse showed downtown Pawhuska with snow on every rooftop and snow-covered rolling hills in the distance.
From Highway 60 between Pawhuska and Bartlesville, it was just a dusting by the afternoon. Travel was manageable for drivers.
Residents in Bartlesville said roads were not much of an issue for them, either.
Dozens enjoyed ice skating at a rink in downtown Bartlesville, provided by the city’s chamber of commerce. ....

New Officials to be Sworn in at Osage Commissioners Meeting

The Board of Osage County Commissioners will meet for its regularly scheduled meeting at the fairgrounds this Monday at 10 o’ clock in the morning. Beginning at 9 a.m., there will be a swearing-in ceremony for the newly elected officials across the county. This includes incoming commissioner for district two, Steve Talburt.
During the meeting, the commissioners will seek to appoint a chairman and vice-chairman for 2021 and set the county mileage reimbursement rate for the year as well.
Emergency Manager Jerry Roberts will give information about the COVID-19 vaccine and its arrival into Osage County. The commissioners will also have continued discussion regarding making possible amendments for those entering the Osage County Courthouse or other county-owned properties. ....

Osage County Roads to be Re-surfaced in Districts One and Two

The Board of Osage County Commissioners met for a regularly scheduled meeting at the fairgrounds on Monday morning in what was the final meeting for court clerk Sheila Bellamy and district two county commissioner Kevin Paslay. Both Bellamy and Paslay made mention of what an honor it had been to serve in their respective positions.
The commissioners took no action regarding making possible amendments for the public entering the Osage County Courthouse, but all three commissioners acknowledged they are battling COVID-19 in their county shops. ....

The Board of Osage County Commissioners are scheduled to meet for a regularly scheduled meeting at the fairgrounds on Monday morning.
Jeremy McLemore with Miller EMS is going to give a report as to how things are going with their company.
The commissioners will have continued discussion regarding the public entering the Osage County Courthouse and other county-owned buildings. They will also award bids for food, road oil, lube, antifreeze and oil.
The commissioners will consider declaring property as surplus and donating property to the Hominy Police Department. There will also be discussion on approving a bid contract for state spec asphalt. ....
