FlyOhio, NASA partner to deploy advanced air mobility ecosystem

FlyOhio, NASA partner to deploy advanced air mobility ecosystem
Award focuses on system development through integrated vehicle and airspace demonstrations in real-world scenarios.
FlyOhio, a collaboration of public, private, and academic institutions led by DriveOhio’s advanced air mobility (AAM) group, has been selected to participate in the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA)’s
Advanced Air Mobility National Campaign. The award focuses on system development through integrated vehicle and airspace demonstrations in real-world scenarios that are critical to safe and effective commercialization.
“In Ohio, we have a longstanding history with advancing aerospace technology, and we continue to pursue new opportunities to support the development of cutting-edge technology,” said Gov. Mike DeWine. “We are eager to join with NASA in a new, broad coalition of institutions across the state who are investing in the advancement of this transformati ....

Drone first responder: Hilliard police working with prototype 'game-changer'

Drone first responder: Hilliard police working with prototype game-changer

The Hilliard Division of Police is testing a prototype drone first responder being developed by Hilliard-based Converge Technologies in a collaboration that is a game-changer in every response,” Deputy Chief Eric Grile said.
Hilliard police have been using drones since 2019, but they are deployed only after officers arrive at a scene. They also have limited applications because the Federal Aviation Administration requires drones to be visible at all times to operators or to a human in radio contact with an operator.
The goal is to do incremental testing to improve the capabilities of drone first responders, earn FAA certificates of authorization after each test and to eventually achieve the ability to operate DFRs using electronic visual lines of sight, Grile said.  ....

How chip-level chaos can help secure devices -- GCN

By GCN Staff
Apr 19, 2021
Researchers at Ohio State University are introducing chaos into computer chips to develop digital fingerprints that may be unique enough to foil even the most sophisticated hackers.
The new solution makes use of an emerging technology called physically unclonable functions, or PUFs, to take advantage of tiny manufacturing variations found in each computer chip. These slight variations – sometimes seen only at the atomic level – can create unique sequences of 0s and 1s that PUF researchers in the field call “secrets.”
Currently PUFs have a great but limited number of secrets, making them vulnerable to hackers that have the time and technology to break them. However, the Ohio State team has “found a way to produce an uncountably large number of secrets to use that will make it next to impossible for hackers to figure them out, even if they had direct access to the computer chip,” Daniel Gauthier, senior author of the study and p ....
