An interactive digital guide to the Ohio River that helps recreational boaters be more aware of commercial boat traffic has earned a national award.
The Ohio Kentucky Indiana Regional Council of Governments (OKI) received a 2021 Achievement Award for the National Association of Regional Councils (NARC). The Major Metro Achievement Award was presented at NARC’s 55th annual conference and exhibition held virtually in June.
OKI developed the online guide to aid boaters, paddlers, anglers, cyclists and drivers in exploring both the Ohio River and its neighboring communities. It is accessible by going to www.ohioriverrecreationtrail.org and clicking on “Digital Guide” in the top right corner. ....

CORBA Plans Celebration For Decade Of Service To Cincinnati Area Maritime Industry

The Central Ohio River Business Association (CORBA) will celebrate its 10th anniversary September 16 with guest speakers and the unveiling of a plaque on the Newport Southbank Bridge.
The pedestrian bridge, commonly known as the Purple People Bridge, spans the Ohio River between Cincinnati, Ohio, and Newport, Ky.
“We hope to create a great event for all of our members and guests,” CORBA chairman Scott James said.
The event, from 3 to 6 p.m., will also include recognition of past chairmen Eric Thomas of Benchmark Terminals, Dave Hammond of Inland Marine, Rob Carlisle of C&B Marine and Jeff Stewart of Cincinnati Barge & Rail, each of whom served two years and helped CORBA grow along the way. ....

Brent Spence Bridge Reopens  Six Weeks After Fiery Crash

A major bridge over the Ohio River in the Cincinnati area reopened on time and under budget after six weeks of emergency repairs.
The Brent Spence Bridge, which carries interstates 71 and 75 over the river between Cincinnati and Covington, Ky., closed November 11 after two commercial vehicles collided and caught fire, melting steel beams and wiring and blackening concrete. The river closed to navigation for a mile in each direction from the bridge for parts of two days before it was assessed safe for river traffic to pass beneath it (
