Marc Rodriguez appointed new Galion police chief

GALION - At the end of his first week as the city s new police chief, Marc Rodriguez was finally getting used to sitting at the desk that had belonged to his boss for the past 21 years.
We hit the ground running, he said as he contemplated the events that had taken place since his swearing-in ceremony May 7.
He took over the helm from his longtime friend and mentor, Brian Saterfield, who retired after serving as Galion s chief of police for 17 years.
Before that, Saterfield was a police officer in Marion for 13½ years. He plans to spend the next few months relaxing with his family while staying involved with Galion sports. ....

GALION A longtime veteran of the Galion Police Department has been appointed its new chief. Marc Rodriguez was selected following a formal testing process.
Rodriguez replaces Chief Brian Saterfield, who retired last week after nearly 17 years leading the Galion Police Department.
According to a biography of the new chief supplied by the City of Galion, being a law enforcement officer has been a lifelong calling for Rodriguez. After meeting a Mansfield Police officer while attending a Safety Town at age five, Rodriguez determined to become a police officer.
“Others before self” is the phrase Rodriguez used to describe his leadership philosophy and style. He noted that he serves by mentoring and coaching and believes that this style of leadership creates a more cohesive organization, according to his biography. ....

CINCINNATI (FOX19) - The state’s Peace Officers’ Memorial Ceremony was held Thursday in London, Ohio, where law enforcement officers and their families gather annually to honor fallen colleagues.

Wayne County Sheriff names Hunter, Schafer 2020 deputies of the year

WOOSTER The Wayne County Sheriff has announced its 2020 deputies of the year.
Sheriff Travis Hutchinson named Sgt. Steven Hunter the Law Enforcement Division Deputy of the Year. Deputy Payton Schafer received recognition as the Corrections Division Deputy of the Year.
To be chosen, deputies are ranked monthly in the number of defendants charged, overall calls for service, traffic stops, warrant arrests, and accident reports. Hunter was selected for the award by his supervisors.
Sgt. Hunter named deputy of the year for law enforcement division
Hunter began his career with the Wayne County Sheriff s Office as a reserve deputy in 2012. Two years later, he became a full-time corrections officer in the county jail and was named Corrections Division Officer of the Year. In 2016, he became a deputy in the jail after graduating from the Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy. ....

Ashland County Sheriff's Office promotes David Blake to chief deputy

ASHLAND Sheriff E. Wayne Risner of the Ashland County Sheriff s Office swore in Chief Deputy David Blake on Tuesday afternoon.
I can tell you through the seven years he s been our jail administrator we ve been one of the finest correctional facilities in the state of Ohio without a doubt, Risner said. And I would stand it up to any in the state of Ohio. Everything is first class.
Perry appointed jail administrator
Joe Perry of Marion was appointed to jail administrator, Blake s previous position he held for almost seven years.
Sometimes you know you have to take advantage of opportunity, Risner said. This is an opportunity for us to keep moving in the right direction in our agency and in our corrections division. ....
