The cannabis industry often provides projections on the billions that are made by the adult-use and medical market. There is, however, a projection that’s often left out of the conversation when it comes to legalized cannabis the economics of the legacy market that came before it and bore the brunt of the casualties in the War on Drugs.
An estimated $4.6 billion in annual cannabis sales happen in New York alone, the majority of which is driven by that very same market, and the integration of that market into a legalized one is an absolute must, says Dasheeda Dawson, the Cannabis Health Equity Movement (CHEM) chief strategy officer and co-founder of the Cannabis Education Advocacy Symposium & Expo (CEASE). A select group of doctors, social workers and fungi experts will now spend the next couple of years creating Oregon’s new psilocybin-assisted therapy program.
When voters passed Measure 109 – to allow the active ingredient of hallucinogenic mushrooms to be used in therapy – they gave the state two years to develop a program.
The new board will be charged with following science to create Oregon’s regulatory framework for psilocybin. Clinical studies, including research from Johns Hopkins University, UCLA and NYU, have shown promising results using such treatment methods for people suffering from anxiety, depression and PTSD. ....

As required under Ballot Measure 109, approved by voters last November, Governor Kate Brown today announced the members of the Oregon Psilocybin Advisory Board. Included on the board are top doctors and researchers from Oregon Health & Science University, fungi experts from Oregon State University, therapists, health experts, and community-oriented licensed clinical social workers.
The board will be charged with following the best available science and data to create Oregon’s regulatory framework for the supervised, therapeutic use of psilocybin products. Clinical studies, including research from Johns Hopkins University, UCLA, and NYU, have shown promising results using such treatment methods for people suffering from anxiety, depression, and PTSD. ....
