The under 18 Sunshine Coast Phoenix played South West Metro Pirates Purple in their final match of the state basketball championships at the Gold Coast on Sunday morning.
The Phoenix kept the game close but were unable to overcome their rivals.

Paramedics respond to second beach incident in two hours

Update 12.15pm:
A person was taken to hospital after they swallowed water while being caught in a rip at Castaways Beach.
Queensland Ambulance Service took the patient to Sunshine Coast University Hospital in a stable condition.
Earlier 11am:
Paramedics are assessing a person at Castaways Beach who reportedly swallowed water while they were caught in a rip.
Queensland Ambulance Service paramedics were called to the beach at 9.26am.
They said the patient was assessed after taking on water when they were reportedly caught in a rip off David Low Way.
It is the second time QAS have been called to a Sunshine Coast beach on Friday morning. ....

Their first game gets going from 11am on Wednesday against the Northside Wizards.
I ve had the pleasure of coaching these guys each second year over the last eight years so I ve coached them four times, he said.
They re a great bunch of guys.
We ve often played in division one. This year we ve been relegated to division two. So we re looking at winning a medal this year.
For a lot of these guys it will be their last state championships because under-18s is the last year of junior basketball.
So I want them to go through and hopefully take a medal from this competition for their work over those eight years. ....
