Doug Burtell died Saturday, April 3, 2021, at the Southwest Healthcare Long Term Center in Bowman, N.D., just shy of his 97th birthday. Burtell s drawings helped capture the day-to-day experiences of fellow soldiers.

BISMARCK Doug Burtell was only 16 when he joined the North Dakota National Guard about a year before the outbreak of World War II.
Following the attack on Pearl Harbor in December 1941, the 164th Infantry Regiment was mobilized and Burtell and more than 1,700 others in the regiment began service in the South Pacific. ....

Clint Eastwood, a legend in his own right, did a fantastic job with the movie, as did the actors. I would trade the whole lot of those miscreants who schmoozed at the Oscars, to have Chris Kyle back. He was shot in the back five times by an insane man and the Liberal Marxists cheered. The President couldn’t even be bothered to attend the funeral of a real American hero. Too busy golfing, I guess. From looking at a photo of the baby-faced United States hospital corpsmen from Columbia, Tennessee the viewer would probably not recognize the young Medal of Honor winner in World War II for his heroics on Iwo Jima on February 29, 1945.
John Harlan Willis was born on June 10, 1921 in Columbia, Tennessee and graduated from Columbia Central High School
He enlisted in the Unites States Navy on November 5, 1940 and received training as a hospital corpsman at the Norfolk Naval Hospital, Portsmouth, Virginia.
John steadily was promoted through the corps until July 1, 1943 when he achieved the rank of pharmacist’s mate first class. ....
