Sales of $1 million-plus properties in small Bay of Plenty seaside towns have doubled and even tripled in some areas as city-dwellers seek the coastal lifestyle and work-life balance.
Real estate agents say the beachside
boom is being fuelled by big-city residents seeking holiday homes. But in one seaside spot baches that have been in families for years are becoming scarce as they are snapped up for permanent homes.
The number of $1 million-plus properties sold in Pukehina doubled from 10 to 20 in a year and more than tripled in Waihi Beach to 43 from 13, according to the Real Estate Institute of New Zealand. ....

But what made Monday evening s tornado in Brunswick County so unusual was that it was a strong tornado, an EF3 on the Enhanced Fujita Scale. A very strong tornado can happen any time of the year, but it s a rare occurrence for North Carolina in February.

American Farm Bureau Federation President Zippy Duvall is disappointed by the International Trade Commissions ruling on blueberry imports.
Duvall says the ITC failed to recognize the damage certain imports are doing.
He says these farmers face unfair competition from foreign growers and the decision demonstrates much work is still needed to address international trade imbalances.
Duvall says they’ll continue working with USDA, USTR and the Department of Commerce to find meaningful assistance for our domestic blueberry industry. ....
