The Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) says hundreds of fines have been issued to travellers arriving in Canada for refusal to quarantine in a government-authorized hotel.
The agency told CTVNews.ca in an emailed statement on Wednesday that 404 tickets have been issued to travellers as of April 19 for refusing to stay in a quarantine hotel.
PHAC said 247 tickets have been issued in Ontario and 157 in British Columbia. The agency said it does not have any records of tickets being issued in Quebec, as tickets there are issued by provincial prosecutors and not by law enforcement.
PHAC said it is also not aware of any enforcement actions taken in Alberta for travellers refusing to go to a government-authorized accommodation (GAA). ....

Coronavirus: 74 per cent of travellers entering Canada were exempt from quarantine

The remaining eight per cent of land travellers were exempt for undisclosed reasons.
The CBSA notes that 91 per cent of travellers who enter Canada by air are being required to quarantine, âas air travellers are less likely to meet an exemption outlined in section 6 of the Mandatory Isolation Order.â
Of the nine per cent of exempt air travellers, the majority were part of the trade or transport sector, including aircrew.
In order for a traveller to be exempt from mandatory quarantine requirements, they must meet an exception outlined in the order enforcing the Quarantine Act.
Over the course of the pandemic, separate exemptions have been made for certain close family members of Canadian citizens, but those travellers have largely been required to complete a 14-day self-isolation upon arrival. ....

KUCHING, Dec 20 The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) today said a misunderstanding led to Stampin MP Chong Chieng Jen being ordered to undergo a mandatory 14-day quarantine upon his arrival at Kuching International Airport (KIA) from Kuala Lumpur yesterday.
The SDMC secretariat clarified that Chong had applied to be exempted from quarantine on December 18 upon his arrival in the state. ....
