Thermo Fisher adds 200 jobs to meet vaccination effort freezer demand

For the second time since the dawn of the COVID-19 pandemic, Thermo Fisher Scientific in Asheville is adding jobs to meet growing demand for low-temperature freezers.
After hiring an additional 147 employees in 2020, the company is now looking to add 200 more employees at its Asheville site.
The need s obviously changed as the world s changed with COVID vaccine requirements, therapies and diagnostics, said Mitch Coyne, VPGM, Controlled Temperature Technologies.
The new positions are coming with a 30,000 square-foot expansion to the manufacturing facility and 50,000 square-foot expansion to the warehouse, Coyne said, accommodating high growth and bringing in a state-of-the-art automation workflow processes.
In Asheville, at the company s largest of three manufacturing facilities, Thermo Fisher Scientific makes freezers that can meet -70 degree Celsius requirements for the Pfizer vaccine, and refrigerators and freezers meeting demands for 2-8 degrees Celsius, ....
