California Pistachio Production and Colorado Animal-Cruelty Initiative
Monday Apr 19th, 2021
From the Ag Information Network, I’m Bob Larson with your Agribusiness Update.
Pistachio production and processing pumps more than $5 billion into the California economy, according to a new study commissioned by the American Pistachio Growers.
It says the pistachio business generates more than 47,000 full-time-equivalent jobs, with almost $2.5 billion in labor income.
The report says farmer investment in new pistachio acreage has helped boost the economic impact.
Ranchers are keeping a wary eye on a proposed Colorado animal-cruelty initiative.
According to www.agrimarketing.com, animal-welfare advocates are trying to place the Protect Animals from Unnecessary Suffering and Exploitation, or PAUSE, initiative on the November 2022 ballot. ....

The South African Revenue Services has previously allowed the deduction of home office expenses in the determination of taxable income where taxpayers earn mainly commission or are independent contractors and freelancers.
However due to Covid-19, the work environment was forced to make certain changes more rapidly.
“Many employees were forced to work from home, either on a full time or part time basis,” said Elizabete Da Silva EY executive director for People Advisory Services.
“With the change in work culture and remote working, the question was raised by South African taxpayers whether they would be permitted to claim a deduction relating to expenditure incurred in respect of their home office, if they were salary workers.” ....

FBI: Suspected serial killer Keyes strangled, dismembered Alaska barista

Print article
After more than 10 months in which authorities released little public information, on Tuesday new details came out about the abduction and murder of 18-year-old Anchorage barista Samantha Koenig on the night of Feb. 1.
Anchorage police and the FBI now say that confessed serial killer Israel Keyes sexually assaulted and asphyxiated Koenig in a shed at his home in Anchorage s Turnagain neighborhood on the night of Feb. 1 and Feb. 2.Authorities said Keyes then left for more than two weeks on a cruise before returning, dismembering her body, and dumping her remains in Matanuska Lake, located on the Glenn Highway between Palmer and Wasilla. Keyes also reportedly wrote a ransom note demanding $30,000 and used Samantha s stolen debit card numerous times, which ultimately led to his arrest in March in Lufkin, Texas. ....
