Barrington: No Decision Made On The Little Big Ex

Organizers with the Barrington Municipal Exhibition say they will wait until later in the summer before deciding the future of this year’s event.
The Shelburne County event is typically held in August and officials want to wait and will evaluate the COVID situation at that time.
The Barrington Exhibition is hopeful they can host some events but no decisions have been made.
The Exhibition Association of Nova Scotia announced earlier this month large scale events would not be possible because of the uncertainty around COVID-19.
However, EANS stated smaller events could take place in some communities.
The Bridgewater exhibition has already been cancelled due to financial concerns around hosting smaller events. ....

The Big Ex has officially been canceled as a result of health and safety protocols that would limit the scale of the event.
Last week, the Exhibition Association of Nova Scotia announced that large-scale exhibitions wouldn’t take place, but smaller events would be allowed.
The executive of The Big Ex voted to cancel the event this week and they decided putting on smaller events wouldn’t be worth it.
President of The Big Ex, Tommy Mailman says they didn’t see a way they could have a profitable event under the current circumstances.
“To put on a great exhibition and have a great space for it like us you need a lot of people to attend and obviously with the rules in place that wasn’t a possibility.” ....

Riverfest Music Festival Cancelled

The Riverfest Music Festival has been cancelled for a second straight summer.
The outdoor concert held at Fox Mountain was called off due to the uncertainty surrounding COVID-19.
The news was confirmed in a social media post on Saturday.
Riverfest has been a summer staple since its inception in 2004. The “Rock the Bush” event is organized by Country 100.7’s Jonathan Crouse.
In a post on the Riverfest Facebook page, it states a virtual event is being explored to give musicians a platform to perform.
It comes as the Exhibition Association of Nova Scotia announced on Thursday the traditional exhibition season would not take place in 2021 due to gathering limits and social distancing concerns. ....

The Mayor of Bridgewater says he was disappointed but not surprised to hear large scale exhibitions won’t go ahead this summer.
David Mitchell says it’s a significant loss for the region but given the vaccination timelines the decision makes sense.
The decision means The Big Ex will look much different for a second straight year.
“Obviously it brings thousands of people to the town each day for a week,” said Mitchell. “People shop, and visit restaurants and fill up on gas and so not just for the town, but regionally, events like the exhibition are big.” ....
