New York schools vexed over changes to state mask policies


Harrison Superintendent Lou Wool, the senior superintendent in the Lower Hudson Valley, said his email was blowing up Saturday with questions about mask requirements. 
All I want is for somebody to tell me what we re supposed to do, he said. I haven t sent a notice to the community because I don t know how this is supposed to work.
Ossining Superintendent Ray Sanchez sent a notice to his community Saturday saying that the district s mask requirement will not change at this time, but that he would monitor the situation and communicate again Sunday.
This dilemma comes with only weeks left to a challenging school year. But there are also implications for summer programs that many districts plan to run next month. ....

Rye, Ossining schools report low numbers opting-in for state tests


Rye and Ossining asked students to opt-in for state testing. Very few students did.
New Rochelle surprised district officials when a larger than expected number of parents opted for their children to take the test.

In Ossining, the number was lowest of all: only 105 students out of more than 2,000 in grades 3-8.
The number of Westchester students in grades three to eight who are taking state assessment tests this week in New York is at a record low in some districts. 
In Ossining, about 5% of eligible students are taking the tests. In Rye, about 23% of grade 3-8 students opted to take them. ....
