White dwarfs going supernova detonate like a nuclear bomb, study suggests

(Natural News)
A new study published in the
Physical Review Letters suggests that the remnant cores of dead average-size stars can explode like a nuclear bomb.
Known as white dwarfs, these dense cores are packed with heavy radioactive elements called actinides that can spontaneously undergo nuclear fission – the splitting of atoms. Depending on certain conditions, these cores can eventually undergo uncontrolled fission, culminating in a massive stellar explosion known as a supernova.
“The conditions to build and set off an atomic bomb seemed very difficult. I was surprised that these conditions might be satisfied in a natural way inside a very dense white dwarf,” Charles Horowitz, a nuclear astrophysicist from ....

Pottery shards reveal evidence of ancient honey hunting in West Africa 3,500 years ago

found traces of beeswax in pottery shards from the ancient Nok culture, which emerged some 3,500 years ago in what is now Nigeria.
“This is a remarkable example of how biomolecular information extracted from prehistoric pottery, combined with ethnographic data, has provided the first insights into ancient honey hunting in West Africa 3,500 years ago,” Julie Dunne, a professor of chemistry at the
University of Bristol and the lead researcher of the study, said in a statement.
Studying ancient West African pots
For their study, Dunne and her colleagues analyzed over 450 pottery fragments from the Nok culture to investigate what foods Nok people ate. Named after the Nigerian village of the same name, the Nok culture flourished for 1,500 years in an area where farmers and foragers coexisted. It was known for its giant terracotta figurines and early iron production. ....

Mince Pies In June, Pigs In 'Beach' Blankets – It's A No From Us

Aldi/Sainsbury s/Supplied
Junemas has landed.
So it’s hardly surprising that supermarkets are trying to make ‘Junemas’ a thing now – a big knees up on June 25, the first Saturday after all remaining social restrictions are set to ease, and six months after the Christmas we missed.
Related.
A survey of more than 2,000 Brits by Censuswide, on behalf of Aldi, found 47% of us are planning to celebrate the day.
Supermarkets are certainly cashing in. Aldi are bringing back their all-butter mince pies, making sure they’re available in stores nationwide from June 21.
And Sainsbury’s are selling “pigs in beach towels” – yep, a summer version of our favourite meaty festive snack – with a slight twist. The pork sausages are perfect for a BBQ, they say: kebab style, pre-skewered, and ready to grill. ....
