New study shows icing muscles after exercise ineffective, counter-productive

New study shows icing muscles after exercise ineffective, counter-productive

After a particularly vigorous workout or sports injury, many of us rely on ice packs to reduce soreness and swelling in our twanging muscles. But a cautionary new animal study finds that icing alters the
molecular environment inside injured muscles in detrimental ways, slowing healing. The study involved mice, not people, but adds to mounting evidence that icing muscles after strenuous exercise is not just ineffective; it could be counter-productive.
Check inside the freezers or coolers at most gyms, locker rooms or athletes kitchens and you will find ice packs. Nearly as common as water bottles, they are routinely strapped onto aching limbs after gruelling exercise or possible injuries. The rationale for the chilling is obvious. Ice numbs the affected area, dulling pain, and keeps swelling and inflammation a ....

The economic impact of Covid-19 has hit the boardroom, with directors fees falling for the first time in nearly a decade, a Strategic Pay survey finds.
Data spanning both private and public sector organisations revealed
a 2.4 per cent decrease in median fee levels for non-executive directors – a result of a reduction in fees experienced by some, and a lack of movement for many others - reflecting a tough and unusual 2020 , Strategic Pay said. ....

Highly efficient solar-powered evaporator promises up to 20 liters of fresh water daily

https://www.afinalwarning.com/512607.html
(Natural News)
Regular access to fresh water is a luxury for more than 1.5 billion people who live in arid locations. On the other hand, sunshine is abundant in these places that lack fresh water. With this in mind, a team of researchers are developing a device that creates fresh water using the power of the sun. The team’s new device can produce water sufficient for a family of four every day.
To make this possible, researchers at the
University of South Australia (UniSA) fine-tuned existing solar evaporator technology to make the process highly efficient. The resulting tweaks enabled the production of fresh drinking water for a day – enough for a family of four – from a square meter of either seawater or contaminated water. ....

Plant-based "vaccine" uses herbs to activate the immune system against the coronavirus, without the blood clot risk

https://www.afinalwarning.com/512985.html
(Natural News)
Canadian company Medicago has developed a plant-based vaccine for the Wuhan coronavirus (COVID-19). The two-dose vaccine uses virus-like particles (VLP) grown in a tobacco shrub to confer immunity against COVID-19.
VLPs are molecules that closely resemble a virus. They are not infectious since they do not contain genetic material. Vaccines that use VLPs train the immune system to recognize a virus and launch an attack if a person gets infected.
Medicago’s vaccine is different from all authorized COVID-19 vaccines. Whereas other vaccines target only the spike protein, the molecule used by the coronavirus to infect host cells, the plant-based shot uses VLPs that resemble the overall structure of the Wuhan coronavirus. ....

Bright lights, big cauliflower sandwich. Restaurant critic Kim Knight finds surprise and delight in the Park Hyatt Hotel s dinner offering.
Sometimes, you see a city in a different light. You turn a corner, cross a
street and remember why you like living here.
Auckland has too much traffic and not enough house. Too hot, too wet and too expensive. But it s also more diverse and more dynamic than anywhere else on this island. On a good day, Auckland crackles - and on a good night, it sparkles. ....
