Jupiter's Europa may have pockets of water that could support alien life – study


Europa, the fourth largest of Jupiter’s moons, has high odds of being habitable. Past studies suggest that an ocean of liquid water lurks beneath Europa’s 15-mile-thick frozen crust. This extraterrestrial ocean contains salts that prevent water from turning into ice, which makes it ideal for life.
There is evidence of recent geological formations within Europa’s crust, including small, dark, dome-like features called lenticulae. Discovered by the
National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), lenticulae are thought to form above bodies of saline water half a mile to three miles beneath the surface.
To learn more about lenticulae, the researchers developed numerical simulations using images taken using NASA’s Galileo spacecraft, which explored Jupiter and its moons between the 1990s and 2000s. The spacecraft, launched in 1989, spotted lenticulae spattered across  Europa’s surface. ....

Indonesia raises 100 billion yen from Samurai bond issuance; govt now considering carbon tax


JAKARTA, May 21 (Reuters): Indonesia raised 100 billion yen (US$920.56 million) from the sale of Samurai bonds in six tranches amid solid demand from Japanese and overseas investors, the finance ministry has announced.
The shortest tenure of 3 years had a 0.33% coupon, compared with last year s 1.13%, while the 20-year bonds had a 1.44% coupon versus a 1.80% coupon in the previous sale, the ministry said in a statement.
The funds will be used to finance the budget deficit including coronavirus pandemic relief.
Meanwhile, Indonesia has drawn up proposals to bring in a carbon tax to curb greenhouse gas emissions, in addition to raising VAT rates and reforming income tax, as part of a major overhaul of the tax system, a finance ministry document showed. ....

A 14 th century gravestone found in a field by a resident has been handed over to cultural activist known for her work in combatting art trafficking Tasoula Hadjitofi, it emerged on Saturday.
The stone was from the grave of Joseph de Sur, a resident of Tyre, Syria, who died in Famagusta (then known as Engomi) in the 14the century, the Walk of Truth, a non-profit founded by Hadjitofi, said on Saturday.
“This means that the tombstone, along with other antiquities, was in the occupied areas,” the press release said.
The man who found it, who wished to remain unnamed, found the gravestone in mud. ....
