COVID-19 in B.C.: U.K. mutation questions; more than 1,600 new cases and 41 deaths over weekend; and more

Although case counts are generally lower than last week or are decreasing, the death toll remains high. Also, there are five new healthcare outbreaks, and 24 flights and 14 stores with confirmed cases.
Meanwhile, B.C. provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry answered questions about the virus mutation in the U.K., as well as about her forthcoming book.

When asked about the genetic variant of COVID-19 detected in the U.K., Henry said that the virus does mutate but, as she has previously said, “this one mutates relatively slowly”.  ....

Three Island flights added to COVID-19 exposure list


There was also a confirmed case on Air Canada/Jazz flight 8261 from Vancouver to Nanaimo on Dec. 14. Passengers in rows 8 to 14 are at higher risk of having been exposed.
Another flight from Vancouver to Nanaimo, Air Canada 8253 on Dec. 12, carried a passenger who tested positive for COVID-19. Those seated in rows 2 to 8 are at highest risk.
Anyone who travelled on a flight with a confirmed case is advised to monitor themselves for symptoms for 14 days.
There were four earlier flights to the Island added to the B.C. CDC’s exposure list in December:

24 flights added to B.C.'s list of COVID-19 airline exposures


 
VANCOUVER
Two dozen flights have been added to B.C.’s list of airline flights on which COVID-19 exposures occurred.
On Thursday and Saturday, the BC Centre for Disease Control added a slew of flights to its latest list of flights that had a passenger with a now-confirmed case of COVID-19.
The latest flights, which took place between Dec. 4 and Dec. 16 are a mix of domestic and international.
Details of the affected flights are as follows:
Dec. 4: Air Canada 25, Vancouver to Shanghai (rows 20 through 26)
Dec. 5: WestJet 122, Vancouver to Calgary (rows 2 through 8)
Dec. 6: Air Canada 45, Delhi to Vancouver (rows 22 through 28) ....
