Committee endorses heritage designation for trolley-barn site

The city is moving towards designating two trolley-car barns built in the 1890s as protected heritage properties, ensuring they’ll be the focal points of the proposed $35-million Graffiti project on University Avenue.
And the developer, Toronto-based AIPL Canada
, is thrilled with the designation, spokesman Shabeg Singh said Monday as he addressed members of the Development and Heritage Standing Committee, which unanimously approved recommending the designation to council.

“It’s exciting, with every conversation we have with the (city’s) heritage department, we find out new things about the buildings,” Singh said. “We’re trying our best and doing our best to bring out the historic significance of our buildings on site.” ....
