India’s choice of arms trade partners has changed significantly over time as the country strives to reduce dependence on old partners such as Russia. India spends around 2.3 per cent of its Gross Domestic Product (GDP) on defence and accounts for 15 per cent of the global arms import. The Indian government had planned to spend USD 64.4 billion to equip and modernise the second largest armed forces in the world in the current financial year. ....

New Delhi, March 10 : Twenty-eight successful tests were carried out by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) in the last one year, the government said on Wednesday.
The major weapons and other systems which have been handed over to the armed forces by the DRDO during this period include Astra Beyond Visual Range Missile System, 10m Short Span Bridging System and Indian Maritime Situational Awareness System (IMSAS).
The list also includes Heavy Weight Torpedo (HWT) Varunastra, Border Surveillance System (BOSS) and Arjun Mk-1A. ....
