The federal government is trying to decide where to house the children amid the overload at the border.

Gov. Ned Lamont confirmed Thursday that the state is looking at places to house unaccompanied migrant children who have been arriving at the U.S.-Mexico border in record numbers.
Lamont says Vice President Kamala Harris asked Connecticut to take in an unknown number of children during her visit to New Haven two weeks ago.
The governor said one potential site is the former Connecticut Juvenile Training School in Middletown, but that mention drew immediate criticism from immigrant and civil rights advocates who say the infamous facility is too much like a prison. ....

MIDDLETOWN, CT Gov. Ned Lamont is considering housing migrant children at the former Connecticut Juvenile Training School in Middletown, according to multiple reports.
The Middletown Press first reported that Lamont, who visited the facility at 1225 River Rd. last week, is reviewing options to properly care for migrant children that could potentially travel to Connecticut.
The now-closed Connecticut Juvenile Training School was a controversial jail opened by former Gov. John G. Rowland in 2001 and closed by Gov. Dannel P. Malloy in 2018, the Hartford Courant reported. ....
