India: Punjab public sector workers strike for better pay
Workers from several Punjab state government departments stopped work for two days on July 8 in protest over the Sixth Pay Commission’s recommendations. The action followed demonstrations by public sector workers and doctors on June 23 and a week-long strike by the Punjab State Ministerial Services Union on June 22 over the commission’s recommendations.
Mass Media Employees and Officers Association members from the Health Department’s mass media wing stopped work and demonstrated on July 8. The association complained that their demand that workers in jobs with the same educational qualification be paid the same as workers in the Public Relations Department had been ignored.

Private Liam Wolf died at Blamey Barracks in Kapooka, NSW Riverina, after 'going blank', inquest

Private Liam Wolf, 18, died two days after the fall, on April 21, 2019.
Pte Wolf likely suffered a cardiac arrest and then sustained a brain injury in the fall, expert witnesses are expected to tell the NSW Coroners Court.
The fall came as the Queensland teenager was nearing the end of the army's 80-day basic training course for new recruits at Blamey Barracks in Kapooka, in the NSW Riverina.
The recruits rose at 4am and marched five kilometres with weighted packs. Then they set out to do an obstacle course designed to test the resilience and teamwork skills they'd been building.

An Afghanistan war veteran who suffers from severe depression and PTSD has opened up about the "bureaucratic, malicious" compensation claims process that, for too many of Australia's war heroes, is often the final straw.
Sometimes, as he found out, it can come down to a single word in a psychiatrist's report, or a single point on an assessment scale.
From the point of view of veterans - who are often struggling to adjust to post-service life while nursing battered bodies and mental scars - the process can be agonisingly slow, convoluted, and at times almost Kafkaesque.

The Minister for the announcement by the Government that there will be $10 million allocated for the Gallery Precinct in Cairns and the further development of that. This is a wonderful project in terms of the arts, but it’s also a wonderful project because what it does is build good relationships with our Indigenous brothers and sisters and helping them in their ability to get very involved in the arts. That is such a great area for the First Nations people because their art is sought all over the world. And we certainly want to help that become a major feature from this project. But again, thank you for the Government. This is not a shiny thing; this is something that’s very important to the future of Cairns. Thank you.
