Farmers market returning to courthouse lawn
The farmers market will be availabl from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m., beginning Wednesday, July 21, at the Guernsey County Courthouse. The market will continue through mid-October. East Eighth Street next to the courthouse will close at 4 p.m. each Wednesday for the market.
City school board to meet
The Cambridge City School Board of Education will meet at 6:30 p.m., on July 13. The location for this meeting will be the Garfield Administrative Center, 518 S. 8th St.. 
Meeting canceled
The Wills Township meeting scheduled for July 12, has been canceled. The next meeting will be at 6:30 p.m., July 26, at the township garage, located at 17629 Easton Road in Salesville. ....

R.I. fire officials remind of firework safety tips ahead of the 4th weekend


Fireworks. Just because they’re legal, doesn’t mean they’re always safe.
Fire officials across the Ocean State issuing that simple let lifesaving reminder ahead of a holiday weekend full of fun and fireworks.
“Understand… sparklers are 1200 plus degrees in temperature,” Captain Craig Emerson with the Cumberland Fire Department says.
In Rhode Island, only hand-held and ground sparklers are legal for the general public. But even those are reasons for concern, especially for children.
“In fact, 30 percent of all emergency room visits due to firework injuries are children under the age of 15 years old,” Emerson adds.

CUMBERLAND – Few places make someone feel more alone than descending into the abyss of a dark river and feeling around for something.
Members of the Cumberland Water Rescue and Recovery Team, now training new members and boasting new equipment, say the experience of diving to retrieve lost items is sometimes terrifying but can be addictive.
The team, first formed in May of 2000, has recently received several donations to upgrade equipment to be safer and more efficient. They showed off that equipment in the pool of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Northern Rhode Island last week. ....

Former New Cumberland fire policeman gets 3 to 10 years in prison for molesting junior firefighter

A former fire police officer for the New Cumberland Fire Department has been sentenced to 3 to 10 years in prison for sexually assaulting a teenage boy who was a junior firefighter.
Cumberland County Judge Jessica E. Brewbaker imposed that punishment four months after James W. Ainsworth III, 26, of New Oxford, pleaded guilty to a charge of aggravated indecent assault of someone under 16.

New Cumberland police arrested Ainsworth in October 2019. He was accused of performing sex acts with the boy at his home in 2017 and of requesting nude photos of the teen. ....
