The Killeen City Council moved forward Tuesday with an interlocal contract with an Austin-based law firm, to provide redistricting services. Council members approved the contract with Bickerstaff Heath Delgado in a 6-1 vote during a regular meeting Tuesday in the City Hall Council Chambers. Killeen Mayor Pro Tem Debbie-Nash King made the motion to approve the contract. Councilmember Rick Williamson moved to second it. Councilmember Mellisa Brown was the lone vote against approving the contract. The city will now enter into the interlocal cooperation contract with Bickerstaff Heath Delgado Acosta, along with Temple, the Temple Independent School District and Bell County. The items will be brought into consideration during a regularly scheduled meeting at 5 p.m. in the City Council Chambers in City Hall. Council members have discussed the possibility of entering into an interlocal cooperation contract with Austin-based law firm Bickerstaff Heath Delgado Acosta to perform redistricting services for the cityâs voting boundaries. Services would include Bickerstaff conducting an initial assessment of the cityâs districts to determine if there is an imbalance. Should any be determined, the law firm would work with Killeen city staff to create a redistricting process that would allow for voting boundaries to be redrawn so they are in compliance with federal law.
