A synod in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ECLA) made history over the weekend when they elected a transgender person as their bishop. According to the
Religious News Service, the Reverend Megan Rohrer of the Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church in San Francisco was elected on the 5th ballot in Sierra Pacific synod’s episcopal elections held Saturday, May 8. They become the first-ever transgender bishop of a major Christian denomination within the U.S. The Sierra Pacific Synod encompasses over 180 churches and 36,000 worshipers in the northern parts of California and Nevada. ....

More than $500,000 spent by organizations after South Side flood

Recovery from the July flooding of Contrary Creek has been anything but simple for those living in the more than 200 homes impacted by it on the South Side.
Multiple organizations combined to spend more than $250,000 on everything from rent and hotel rooms to furnaces, plumbing and other materials. Church of Christ Disaster Relief through East Hills Church of Christ alone spent more than $250,000 on new beds, water heaters, washers, dryers, stoves and refrigerators, among other things.
This half-a-million-dollar figure doesnât include any labor, as many of the churches provided volunteers to help. And right when some real progress was happening with construction, another spike in COVID-19 cases caused restrictions. ....

SMITHVILLE, Mo. â Before his death in August 2019, Stanley M. Herzog is said to have given a simple directive for the establishment of his legacy: Support Christian education.
The late Missouri business titan left hundreds of millions of dollars for the nationwide benefit of religious schooling with an emphasis on Northwest Missouri, the new foundation formed in his honor has announced. In the main, the money will benefit institutions of K-12 education that adopt all denominations of training and guiding young disciples, as the Rev. Darrell Jones of Grace Evangelical Church explained it.
