COVID-19 by the numbers New Mexico health officials yesterday reported 259 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the statewide total so far to 186,156. The health department has designated 151,708 of those cases as recovered. Bernalillo County had 80 new cases, followed by Doña Ana County with 38 and Sandoval County with 24. Santa Fe County had 10 new cases. There also were 10 new cases reported among New Mexico Corrections Department inmates at the Lea County Correctional Facility, which had 37 new cases yesterday and an outbreak of close to 200 cases last week; there have now been 726 COVID-19 cases at that facility. The state also announced 16 additional deaths, skewing in the worst case scenario from Los Alamos National Laboratory s weekly modeling and forecasting report; there have now been 3,769 fatalities statewide. As of yesterday, 177 people were hospitalized with COVID-19. ....
Seymour girls take down Floyd Central 12/18/20 12:06 AM Grace Meyer collected 12 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Seymour girls basketball team to a 38-24 victory over Floyd Central on the road Thursday night. Kendall Sterling had 13 points and added 5 rebounds after the Owls got off to a quick 10-2 lead at the end of the first quarter. Grace Schrader contributed 7 points and another 5 rebounds for Seymour, now 5-5. The Owls displayed tight defense throughout the night. After limiting the hosts to 2 points in the opening period, Seymour held Floyd Central under 10 points in each of the other three quarters, as well. ....

Rather than tempt Fate and wait until the traditional home finale in late January to celebrate the six seniors on the roster, the Stars will fast-forward the annual observance for the team elders to Thursday night. The seventh-ranked Stars (7-1) will face Seymour (4-3) in an important Hoosier Hills Conference clash, but for a brief time that will be overshadowed as the senior class of Chloe McKnight, Irye Gomez, Jenna Louden, Haley Deckard, Makena Moore and Grace Kinser take their bows. ....
