SCRANTON, Pa. Glynis Johns remembers visiting this old PNC Bank on North Main Avenue in Scranton as a child. As of this week, it s hers.
Johns and her organization Black Scranton Project plan to turn the former bank into a center for arts and culture.
A lot has happened over the past couple of years and I think it s a testament to the fact that this is needed and it s important. it s time for us to really start investing in communities of color, said Johns. ....

Glynis Johns is the founder of the Black Scranton Project. She shared some ideas for anyone unsure of how to celebrate this month.
She said, “I think the most important thing is to take some time every day to look into black history, whether it s local, regional, or national. You can go to Black Wall Street dot com. Honestly, right now, quick Google searches.” ....

SCRANTON, Pa. For the second year, a ceremony was held in Scranton to honor Black History Month.
Dozens gathered at City Hall on Saturday to reflect and celebrate the role Black American s have played in shaping the city, the nation s identity, and culture.
It s amazing, you know, it s a pandemic so we all have to take calculated risks, so I m excited that a lot of people took the time to come out and solidarity and show their support despite the pandemic, despite the cold. It s really great to see a lot of diverse faces out here today, said Glynis Johns with the Black Scranton Project. ....

Automotive F&I products provider and administrator APCO Holdings announced initiatives to improve diversity and equity within the company, including the formation of a diversity and inclusion council that has launched new inclusion and unconscious bias training courses required for all employees.
APCO said the company plans to continue building a stronger culture of inclusion.
“As the nation engages in discussions about diversity and inclusion, APCO is committed to using our resources and collective experiences to create substantial change now and in the future,” APCO vice president, human relations Crystal Meinert said in a news release. ....
