Some Republicans are asking Senate Democrats to cancel President Donald Trump’s impeachment trial, citing the fact it isn’t set to happen until after Trump leaves office.
House Minority Whip and Metairie Congressman Steve Scalise voted against impeachment in the House and said the trial would be a distraction.
“Do they really want to spend the first few weeks of the Biden Administration dealing with an impeachment of someone who is already gone? I think we need to be focused on uniting the country,” said Scalise.
South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham formally requested Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer to hold a vote on canceling the trial. ....
