CANTON Victor Leinberger, 95, received the town’s Boston Post Cane and a plaque from Selectman Russell Adams during Thursday’s selectmen meeting.
He’s lived in town for 30 years.
“After moving over here from New York after retirement I am very happy,” He said. “I like this town. It’s very nice, everybody is very nice, thank you.” ....

Canton animal control officer requests bulletproof vest, ID

CANTON Selectmen agreed Thursday night to have Animal Control Officer Richard Burton submit a request for a bulletproof vest, according to Town Clerk Carol Buzzell.
Burton requested the vest and official photo identification for himself via an email, which Buzzell presented to selectmen at their meeting Thursday.
In it he said he previously asked Livermore for a vest and “an official photo ID” and they asked him to check if Canton would share the cost.
“I have found myself involved in several search and seizure warrants in the last few years,” Burton wrote. “Executing search warrants with other law enforcement agencies is dangerous. A bulletproof vest is not just to stop bullets. All of the ACOs that I know are issued vests with shock plates to stop not just bullets but dangerous dogs. A dog that is intent on killing a person does not bite a person on the leg or hand, they bite your chest and abdomen,” he wrote. ....

CANTON The annual town meeting will be held at 5 p.m. Thursday, June 10, at the town ball field on School Street,  selectmen decided Thursday.
They also approved a 10-page town website to be created by Expenet Technologies for $1,000.
A fireproof safe for the town office was OK’d to replace one that does not have a fire safety rating, Selectman Carole Robbins said after the meeting.
Town Clerk Carol Buzzell said dog owners have a 30-day waiver on licensing their animals, per the state’s emergency declaration related to the pandemic. The usual deadline is Jan. 31.
