Picking up where they left off
Fantasy Country augments the group’s swirling guitars and unison boy-girl vocals with synth textures and hints of Kosmiche influences. After the shit-awful year the planet has endured in 2020, musical respite is now even more essential than ever and the current band certainly deliver, as opening cut Goodtimes issued what seems a million years ago last January shines as brightly as the midday sun.

Little Oblivions (Matador)
This Memphis-based artist’s powerful third album recasts her introspective folk-pop with a more expansive and muscular sound. With Baker playing every instrument herself, the album combines ringing guitars, piano, organ, synths, bass and drums for a full-band sound that brings additional anthemic heft to Baker’s confessional, sometimes self-lacerating lyrics revolving around addiction, loss, heartache and the limits of faith. Across the last decade, Flyying Colours have established themselves as Australian shoegaze stalwarts. From their well-received self-titled debut EP in 2013, through to 2015’s
ROYGBIV, and then
Mindfullness – their critically-acclaimed debut album in 2016, Flyying Colours have carved out their own space in the local music scene.
Now, the band prepare themselves for the release of their sophomore LP,
Fantasy Country – a record teeming with references to the ’90s UK psych and shoegaze era and one that diverts their sonic trajectory into a new stratosphere.
