For months, California Ripped Fitness has defied COVID-19 mandates in the name of constitutional liberties and kept its indoor operations intact, to the chagrin of community members.
But the San Jose gym has finally shut down its indoor operations, following months of legal threats by Santa Clara County and a fine that has snowballed to $1 million.
They have submitted a compliance statement indicating they are no longer operating indoors and are complying with all public health orders, Santa Clara County said in a statement to SFGATE. The County is pleased that California Ripped Fitness has decided to come into compliance, and we will be working with them on an agreement to resolve the outstanding fines. ....

A California gym has been slapped with fines adding up to $550,000 by Santa Clara County for remaining open despite COVID-19 restrictions in place, and risks being issued more penalties if it continues to operate its indoor operations.
Under the state s tier-system, Santa Clara County falls under the purple widespread risk category. Gyms are only allowed to open outdoors in the purple tier and all indoor pools, hot tubs, saunas and steam rooms are required to close.
Despite repeated visits and notices from county officials, California Ripped Fitness in San Jose has chosen to stay open for indoor exercise for months and has made no efforts to comply with county rules. ....
