On Wednesday, fire officials raised the Fire Danger Level in the Angeles National Forest and the San Gabriel Mountains National Monument to Extreme, just under one month after raising the danger level to Very High on June 16.
Fuel moistures on the forest are very dry, this condition combined with high temperatures support rapid fire spread, the U.S. Forest Service said in a statement.

If the Covid-19 pandemic has taught us anything, it’s the importance of cloud-based disaster recovery and business continuity planning. Indeed, when local and state governments announced stay at home orders in the spring of 2020, migration to the cloud accelerated dramatically as IT teams scrambled to ensure employees could connect and collaborate remotely, as well as access mission-critical company data from their new home offices.
It was a move that especially impacted small and midsize businesses across America, with Flexera’s 2020 State of the Cloud report predicting that 70 percent of SMB workloads and data would reside in the public cloud by the end of the year. And with a separate study from Analysys Mason finding that more than a quarter of SMBs i ....

UTAH COUNTY, Utah — A study led by researchers at the University of Utah outlined new ways to prepare for wildfire evacuations, especially in dire situations where there isn’t much time to get out.
In order to save lives, researchers found the need to rely on many elements that are not used right now, including improvising and neighbors helping neighbors, Tom Cova said.
Cova is one of the authors of the study, as well as a professor in the Department of Geography for the University of Utah. ....

Advancing Equity Through Grid Modernization - Center for American Progress

Advancing Equity Through Grid Modernization
April 28, 2021, 9:07 am
Although the U.S. power grid was built throughout the 20th century, much of the physical infrastructure still in place today dates back to the 1950s and 1960s. As a result, the United States now experiences more blackouts than any other developed country, with electric companies reporting more than 2,500 major outages since 2002. Decades of chronic underinvestment in grid infrastructure have resulted in an outdated, inefficient, and unreliable power system one that disproportionately affects low-income communities and communities of color.

The consequences of the country’s aging power grid continue to make headlines and are being exacerbated by climate change. In 2019, the California Camp Fire the most destructive fire in the state’s history, responsible for killing 85 people was ignited by a faulty transmission line. Just this past February, winter storms led to more than 4.5 million ....
