Food scarcity is source of insecurity — Scientist

Ibadan, April 1, 2021 Prof. Eustace Iyayi, Director, Nigeria Institute of Animal Science, has urged government to ensure food sufficiency as food scarcity could lead to various sources of insecurity in the country.
Iyayi made the call on Thursday in his keynote address at the founder’s day celebration of the Federal College of Animal Health and Production Technology, Ibadan.
He spoke on the topic, ‘Nigeria: Food Security, Internal Security and Feedlot System’.
The animal scientist noted that if there was a shortfall in the availability of food in a nation, there will be social unrest which could lead to national insecurity. ....

College produces over 6000 self-employed agriculturists — Provost

Ibadan, April 1, 2021 The Federal College of Animal Health and Production Technology, Ibadan, has produced over 6000 self-employed graduands across Nigeria since its inception in 1964.
The College’s provost, Dr Adekoya Owosibo, disclosed this on Thursday during the institution’s founder’s day in Ibadan.
Owosibo said that products of the college could mitigate gaps for extension workers to achieve the Federal Government’s vision of achieving national food security.
According to him, the college operates livestock farms such as poultry, cattle rearing, sheep, goat and rabbit among others for students’ practical purposes.
He added that the college also ran a veterinary clinic and diagnostic lab for analysing samples from sick animals. ....
