I’ve written before about how difficult it is for Alabamians to access adequate mental health care. Our state has operated with a care network held together by scotch tape and good intentions for far too long.
As a result, when we walked straight into the buzzsaw of a global pandemic that lent itself to what the CDC described as a “considerably elevated mental health toll,” we weren’t as prepared as any of us would have liked to be. We are still learning how the disruption and isolation of Covid-19 have taken a toll on those vulnerable to mental health problems.
