'Let Them Breathe' prepares to file lawsuit against California -


SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – California is now backtracking on its order that all students and teachers must wear masks in while indoors at schools.
The new position is that local schools can decide for themselves how to deal with the wearing of face coverings.
This new development arises just as the organization “Let Them Breathe” is preparing legal actions against the state.
Founder of Let Them Breathe, Sharon McKeeman, joined KUSI’s Logan Byrnes on Good Evening San Diego to discuss their organization’s next steps.
McKeeman argued that California’s Education Code Section 48900 states that K-8 students can only be suspended or expelled for breaking certain types of rules, and unmasking is not one of those things. ....

A data-driven presentation on the benefits of transitional kindergarten (TK) was provided to the five local Basic Aid districts last month by North County community member Allison Trent.

Of the four districts that included the presentation on recent agendas, the Del Mar Union School District was the only one that held an open session discussion.
The Cardiff, Encinitas and Solana Beach school districts did not discuss the issue in open session. Donna Tripi, superintendent of the fifth district, Rancho Santa Fe, said she did not receive a request to place TK on the agenda.
At their board meetings, Cardiff, Del Mar, Encinitas and Solana Beach had two presentations: Trent’s – which was extensive, thorough and research-based – and one developed by each school district. ....

With the resignation of Area 4 Trustee, Anne DeMartini, from the Yosemite Community College District (YCCD) Board of Trustees, effective Jan. 3, the Board of Trustees has filled the vacancy by provisional appointment. In accordance with Education Code Section 5091, Jennifer M. Nicolau was provisionally appointed to the YCCD Board on Feb. 16, through an interview process in which all five trustee applicants were interviewed. Unless a petition is filed containing a sufficient number of signatures with the Stanislaus County Office of Education within 30 days of the provisional appointment, it shall become effective.
Should the provisional appointment become effective, Nicolau may serve until the results of the next regularly scheduled election for governing board members in November 2022 are finalized. The Area 4 position will be up for a full four-year term in the ....

Lake Tahoe Unified School District seeks developer fee increase

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Lake Tahoe Unified School District (LTUSD) is seeking a increase of developer fees that go to the district from $2.24 per square foot to $3.20 per square foot. They plan to use the increase in revenue to support its program to reconstruct existing facilities, funds that are needed due to rising costs in South Lake Tahoe.
The current fee structure has been in place since 2013. It is calculated on all living area space when a building permit is issued by the City of South Lake Tahoe or El Dorado County, depending on where the home falls within the LTUSD boundaries. ....
