Clay Publix to undergo major renovation, Cosby Lake dredging 'within just a few days of finishing'

CLAY – Clay City Manager Ronnie Dixon told the city council at Tuesday night’s council meeting that the Publix located at 5150 Old Springville Road in Clay will soon be undertaking a $600,000+ renovation.
“If you remember four years ago – it will be five when they finish – (Publix) did a renovation,” Dixon said. “So, they brought the plans in about three weeks ago to do another renovation. … It’s going to be a north-of-$600,000 renovation … so you’ll see a major renovation going on at Publix.”
Dixon also updated the council on the status of the Cosby Lake dredging project, which has had the lake closed to the public since July 2020. The dredging was originally scheduled to be completed by October 2020, but was delayed due to Hurricane Sally and other factors. ....

Clay Council continues teacher grants, gets update on Cosby Lake dredging project

CLAY Despite all of the unknowns with the Covid-19 pandemic and public school systems, the Clay City Council has continued with its long-standing tradition of awarding $500 grants to one teacher at each of the schools in the Clay community throughout this school year.
Clay City Councilor Dennis Locke announced this month’s school grant winners at the virtual city council meeting on Zoom, Tuesday, Jan. 26, 2021.
Clay Elementary School’s grant was awarded to Principal Jacqnaii Finkley to allocate the funds as needed.
The Bryant Elementary School grant was awarded to math teacher Natalie Davis, who will use the funds to purchase a printer, and additional ink and toner; Davis also plans to purchase hands-on learning tools for her classroom to help students visualize math problems and explore new strategies. ....
