Indian Army Deploys K-9 Vajra Howitzers In Ladakh For Testing Of Performance In High-Altitude Regions

Indian Army has begun the testing of its all-new 155mm/52-calibre K-9 Vajra self-propelled howitzers in the terrains of Ladakh, reports
Times of India.
Built in Gujarat by a joint venture of Larsen & Toubro (L&T) and South Korean weapons major Hanwha Defence, the Indian Army has completed the procurement of 100 such howitzers for a cost of Rs 4,366 crore and has now deployed three of the units in Ladakh to assess their suitability and efficacy for deployment in the high-altitude region where the temperatures can fall well below minus 20 degree Celsius.
It should be noted that the last of the 100 howitzer guns was flagged off by Indian Army s Chief of Staff General MM Naravane on Thursday (18 February) from the Armoured System Complex of L&T at Hazira near Gujarat s Surat city. ....

NEW DELHI: The Army is now testing whether its new K-9 Vajra self-propelled howitzers can be effectively deployed in Ladakh, even as General M M Naravane inducted the last of the 100 such artillery guns ordered for Rs 4,366 crore from a joint venture of L&T and South Korean Hanwha Defence on Thursday.

L&T completes deliveries of 100 K9 VAJRA Howitzers to Indian Army

Larsen & Toubro announced that L&T Defence produced the K9 VAJRA under the largest contract awarded to an Indian private company by the Ministry of Defence, through global competitive bidding.
The K9 VAJRA Howitzer Program involved the delivery of 100 Howitzers with associated Engineering Support Package (ESP) covering spares, system documentation and training.
It also involves Maintenance Transfer
of Technology (MToT) to an army base workshop to support the Howitzers throughout their operational life cycle.
As a part of the Make-in-India mission, the company established a green-field manufacturing cum integration and testing facility, the Armoured Systems Complex (ASC) at L&T s Hazira Manufacturing Complex near Surat. The ASC was dedicated to the nation by the Honourable ....
