In January 2006, two young Soldiers were killed eight days and less than 50 miles apart while deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Fourteen years later, their stories came together by way of two 58th Transportation Battalion first sergeants.
A lunchtime phone call last year between Company C 1st Sgt. Kevin Dudkiewicz and Company A 1st Sgt. Alec Glanville, uncovered a shared story of loss neither expected.
When Dudkiewicz told Glanville, then a senior drill sergeant under Dudkiewicz, that his brother had been killed during OIF in 2006, Glanville revealed his brother was also killed in Iraq the same year. ....

Former deputy Fort Hood commander dies


Doyle served 33 years in the Army after enlisting in 1951.
He died on May 8, 2021.
As a colonel, he commanded the 3rd Armored Calvary Regiment — now the 3rd Cavalry Regiment — which was at Fort Bliss at the time. The regiment is now based at Fort Hood.
One of his final positions was as deputy commander of III Corps and Fort Hood before going to the Pentagon to be a deputy inspector general, according to his biography in the “Army Executive Biographies,” published May 15, 1985.
Also during his career, as a lieutenant colonel, he was awarded the Silver Star three times for actions in Vietnam, according to the Military Times Valor website. ....

Chief Warrant Officer Five Chris Cottrill is a native of Plymouth, Minnesota. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in June 1990 and completed USMC Basic at MCRD San Diego, California. Cottrill served as a CH-53 crew chief until June 1998 before being accepted into the U.S. Army flight training program. Cottrill attended the U.S. Army Warrant Officer Basic Course and U.S. Army Helicopter Flight Training at Fort Rucker, Alabama, in 1998. He completed UH-60 pilot qualification in October 1999.
Cottrill’s previous assignments include aviation standardization officer, 10th Combat Aviation Brigade, Fort Drum, New York; aviation standardization officer, 8th Army, Korea; battalion standardization officer, 2nd BN, 82nd Combat Aviation Brigade, Fort Bragg, North Carolina; standardization pilot, Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe Flight Detachment, Belgium; battalion and company standardization officer ....

WASHINGTON The Tennessee National Guard sent Soldiers and Airmen to Washington, D.C. to provide support for Joe Biden s Presidential Inauguration.
Tennesseans in uniform are providing security and support to the District of Columbia National Guard and law enforcement as part of a task force of guard members from across the country.
More than 700 soldiers with Knoxville s 278th Armored Calvary Regiment, 194th Engineer Brigade in Jackson, and 230th Sustainment Brigade in Chattanooga are in D.C. assisting civil law enforcement and first responders with crowd management and security for the event. ....
