Billy The Kid, born Henry McCarty and also known as William H. Bonney, was one of the most notorious outlaws of the Old West and is often remembered for how young he was. He was first arrested at the age of 16 which began several years of escapes from the law, robberies and a few murders. He took part in 1878’s Lincoln County War in which he later killed a sheriff and his deputy, two crimes which launched his status as a wanted man even higher. He was shot and killed at the age of 21, though for years afterward rumours circulated Billy had really survived and was in hiding, his legend growing even after death as people claimed they were him or copycatted his crimes. He has become a huge staple of American and Old West mythology with many books, films and television series having been made on his life and reputation ....
