As we have turned the calendar to 2021, now is again the time for senior living facilities around the state to evaluate whether the facility is eligible for any property tax exemptions for 2021. Exemption applications are due with the respective County Property Appraiser no later than March 1, 2021.
There are multiple statutes under which a senior living facility could be entitled to an exemption, including:
Homes for the aged exemption (F.S. 196.1975) – for non-profit entities that provide senior housing, with a greater exemption available (common area) for projects that have over 25% of the units reserved for low-income seniors. ....

Old Shrine Club in FWB demolished to make way for new Chipotle


FORT WALTON BEACH  Officials from Newport Beach, California-based Chipotle Mexican Grill plan to open a Chipotle restaurant this summer at the site of the former Fort Walton Beach Shrine Club.
The old Shrine Club building at 227 Carol Ave., off Mary Esther Cut-Off and just northeast of the Golden Corral restaurant, recently was demolished.
Fort Walton Beach officials approved an expedited development order for the restaurant last October, according to city Growth Management Director Chris Frassetti.
“We’ve been waiting on their building permit submittals, which included their need to pick a general contractor,” Frassetti said Wednesday. “They submitted the remaining permit documentation to us last Thursday.” ....

Contractor Pece of Mind Environmental plans to use a high-reach boom to demolish the unfinished 18-story building from the top down.
The developer that wants to raze the unfinished Berkman Plaza II on the St. Johns Riverfront Downtown says it no longer plans to implode the high-rise.
The city is reviewing an amended permit application filed Jan. 6 to tear down the 18-story building at 500 E. Bay St. using a high-reach excavator.
Developer Jacksonville Riverfront Revitalization LLC hired Orlando-based contractor Pece of Mind Environmental Inc. to complete the demolition. 
Documents filed with the city show Pece of Mind plans to use a crane and 135-foot boom to demolish the 279,000-square-foot structure from the top floor down. The company will use a debris curtain to keep material contained at the demolition site. ....
