ITHACA, N.Y. (WHCU) – An opportunity to learn the history of the Underground Railroad in Ithaca and the Finger Lakes region.
Seneca County Historian Walter Gable is leading a virtual presentation Monday evening via zoom. The discussion will begin by defining the term ‘underground railroad.
“In it’s broadest term the underground railroad term can be used to refer to any type of anti-slavery activity in the years before the Civil War. And it’s very safe to assume the Finger Lakes in general and certainly the Ithaca and up through the central Finger Lakes…was very much a hot bed of anti-slavery activity,” said Walter Gable, Seneca County Historian. ....
