Fletcher Gets 8-14 Year Sentence in Death of Wife

GREEN RIVER — Jason Lee Fletcher, 46, of Rock Springs, has been sentenced to at least eight years in the Wyoming State Penitentiary following his involuntary manslaughter conviction in April.
Judge Richard Lavery handed down the sentence this afternoon in Third District Court telling Fletcher that his “crime was hard to put into a category where at least some incarceration is not warranted.”
Lena Fletcher died on the night of June 29, 2020, after being shot with a .44 Magnum Ruger Blackhawk through her hand, neck, and shoulder at the couple’s Clearview Acres home.

Jason Fletcher has consistently maintained that her wounds were self-inflicted, but did take responsibility for loading the gun prior to the incident.

Nielsen Pleads No Contest in Death of 5-Year-Old Green River Boy

GREEN RIVER — A 27-year-old Green River man has changed his plea to no contest in the felony first-degree murder of a five-year-old Green River boy in November 2019.
Christopher James Nielsen entered his plea this morning in the Third District Court of Judge Suzannah Robinson. As a result, he stands convicted of the death of 5-year-old Green River youth Anthony James Radcliff on November 28, 2019.
Nielsen has spent the last year and a half in jail awaiting a jury trial after pleading not guilty during an arraignment in January 2020. He described his actions on the night of November 14, 2019 during his hearing today.

Trial Opens on Rock Springs Man Accused in Shooting Death of Wife

GREEN RIVER — The Third District Court trial of 46-year-old Rock Springs resident Jason Fletcher began today with opening statements from the state and defense, as well as testimony from law enforcement personnel and family members familiar with in the case.
Fletcher has been charged with felony involuntary manslaughter in the death of his wife, Lena Fletcher, at their Clearview Acres home west of Rock Springs on the night of June 29, 2020.
Body cam footage from several law enforcement agents at the scene was transcribed and entered into evidence today. Much of the footage shows an intoxicated and distressed Fletcher pleading with officers to help his wife and stating that she would never shoot herself on purpose.

Cave Receives Five Years Probation in 2020 Stabbing Incident

ROCK SPRINGS — Alexander Vincent Ray Cave, 28, of Rock Springs, received five years of supervised probation today in Third District Court for his involvement in a stabbing incident back in January 2020.
Cave was originally charged with attempted second-degree murder in the stabbing of Rafael Magana, but later pleaded no contest in exchange for a reduced charge of aggravated assault and battery last year.
The maximum sentence for aggravated assault is 10 years in prison, a $10,000 fine, or both. Sweetwater County Attorney Dan Erramouspe sought financial restitution in the amount of just under $75,000 in the case, which Judge Suzannah Robinson granted. He was originally sentenced to 6-10 years in the state penitentiary, but that sentence was reduced to probation and the restitution amount.

20-20 on Jan. 8 featured Rodney James Alcala, known as "The Dating Game Killer," and started with the story of his killing a Texas woman in 1977.
Alcala was known as "The Dating Game Killer" because he appeared as a contestant of the popular television show in 1978, was charged and convicted of murdering two women in New York crimes in 2012 and given a lengthy prison sentence before being returned to California where he is on death row for murders committed in that state.
He also murdered San Antonio resident Christine Ruth Thornton, 27, and disposed her body in a remote area northeast of Granger, a small community northwest of Green River.
