Independent councillor Emma Faramarzi, formerly a Conservative, has resigned from the council The only councillor on Swindon Borough Council who is neither a Conservative nor Labour member has resigned. Emma Faramarzi was elected in 2018 as Conservative candidate for Priory Vale and had previously served in the group’s cabinet during her 10 years as a councillor – but she left last year. She has been sitting as an Independent Tory with her partner, former Conservative councillor Oliver Donachie. After Mr Donachie lost his Haydon Wick seat to a Conservative challenger in Thursday’s elections, Coun Faramarzi was the only councillor left in the new chamber of 57 councillors not to be a member of the winning Conservative group or the Labour opposition. ....
Jonathon Seed - the Conservative candidate for PCC has withdrawn because of a 30-year-old motoring conviction The Conservative party in Wiltshire, and Jonathon Seed should come clean about when they knew Coun Seed would not be able to take up the post of Police and Crime Commissioner because of a past conviction says Labour candidate Junab Ali. The Swindon councillor has reacted to the news than Coun Seed the favourite to win the election has withdrawn the day before the count because he is disbarred by an old driving conviction. JONATHON Seed has released the full letter he sent Wiltshire Council’s chief election official confirming he was pulling out of the police and crime commissioner race. In the letter, which is dated May 9, 2021, Coun Seed says he was fined and banned from the roads for 18 months in 1993 after being convicted of drink driving. However, as he had not been sentenced to prison “nor under the sentencing authorities could I have been” did not believe the conviction to have been for an imprisonable offence that would have automatically disqualified him from becoming police and crime commissioner. The Wiltshire councillor claimed he had been open “at all times” with the Conservative Party. He declared the conviction in party applications in 2011 and 2018. ....
THE CURRENT police and crime commissioner and candidates for the role have registered their shock at Jonathon Seed s withdrawal from the race. The Conservative frontrunner announced he was pulling out of the election after it emerged party bosses had disbarred him from taking up the role if he were elected tomorrow. Coun Seed was said to have a driving conviction which by law disqualified him from holding the office of police and crime commissioner. We would all welcome additional police resources and Wiltshire Police deserve our fullest support.
