Ontario closes border with Quebec to essential travel only


 
MONTREAL
The Quebec government announced specifics of the plan to limit travel between Ontario and Quebec after Premier Doug Ford announced the new measure to curb the spread of COVID-19. 
According to a statement from the Quebec s Public Security Ministry, only a select group of people will be permitted to enter the province by road from Ontario. Those include:
People who have a main residence in Quebec
Those who have a secondary residence in the province and must maintain it
Are travelling for humanitarian purposes
Are travelling to obtain care or services required by their health or provide such services to another person ....

Traffic was backed up on the bridges connecting Ottawa and Gatineau Monday morning as police began enforcing new pandemic travel restrictions.
The morning rush hour slowed to a crawl as vehicles waited in lineups at Ottawa police check points set up at midnight to restrict the movement of vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists from Quebec.

Val-des-Monts man charged after 18 guns, counterfeit cash seized by RCMP

A 51-year-old Val-des-Monts man appeared in court in Gatineau on Monday after the RCMP seized a total of 18 firearms, including an assault rifle and a Thompson sub-machine gun, and four silencers.
A few thousand dollars in counterfeit U.S. cash and what’s believed to be cocaine were also seized in searches of the man’s home and a second residence in Gatineau last Wednesday by the RCMP’s airport and federal investigations detachment with the help of Gatineau and MRC des Collines-de-l’Outaouais police.
