Use of Johnson & Johnson's COVID-19 vaccine temporarily halted because of blood-clot cases

Illinois on Tuesday temporarily halted shots of Johnson & Johnson s popular one-dose vaccine for COVID-19 on the advice of federal health authorities who plan to meet Wednesday and review six U.S. cases of a rare and severe-type blood clot among the 6.8 million J&J vaccine recipients.
A statement from the Illinois Department of Public Health said the department instructed all providers of COVID-19 vaccines in the state to immediately discontinue use of the J&J vaccine at this time out of an abundance of caution.
FDA,CDC recommend J&J pause: Rare but severe blood clots reported
State officials indicated that the temporary suspension of J&J vaccine wouldn t significantly hamper efforts to vaccinate the population in the short term as officials try to reach herd immunity by getting at least 70% to 80% of Illinoisans vaccinated. ....

Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 shots paused amid 6 reports of blood clots

The use of the popular, one-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine for preventing COVID-19 was temporarily halted Tuesday by state health officials because of six U.S. cases of a “rare and severe-type blot clot” among recipients of that vaccine.
A statement from the Illinois Department of Public Health said the department instructed all providers of COVID-19 vaccines in the state to immediately discontinue use of the J&J vaccine at this time “out of an abundance of caution.”
The department said the Moderna and Pfizer-BioNTech vaccines for COVID-19 make up the “vast majority of doses on hand” in Illinois. Those vaccines require two doses given several weeks apart to achieve full effectiveness.  ....

Decades of Republican institutional memory have left Springfield.
Sangamon County Republican chairwoman Rosemarie Long passed away Wednesday, as did former Illinois House clerk Tony Leone. Leone was the proprietor of the Pasfield House bed-and-breakfast near the Capitol.
Former State Rep. Sara Wojcicki Jimenez had her rehearsal dinner at Pasfield and said of Leone, “He was the best host. He wanted to make whatever event you were having one that he was personally hosting. he was always quick with an opinion but always in the spirit of kindness.”
Jimenez said Long was probably the first to arrive at all of Jimenez’ political events and seemed especially keen on mentoring young women in Republican politics. Agreeing: former Sangamon County board member Catie Sheehan, who was reluctant to run for office but credits Long with changing her mind. ....

HSHS ready for vaccines, but needs more shipments

The slow distribution of vaccines nationally is causing a slow rollout in Sangamon County as vaccine providers are ready to move to the next phase of vaccination.
At HSHS St. John s Hospital in Springfield, a member of the Hospital Sisters Health System group, vaccine distribution is on hold because the hospital has used up its allotment.
Dr. Marc Shelton of St. John s said they were able to get through Phase 1a of vaccination, which provided vaccines to employees of the hospital. With the few leftovers they had, some patients in Phase 1b, frontline workers and people over age 65, who were already members of the hospital s patient system, were invited to get vaccinated.  ....
