Chalmers University of Technology investigates energy storage in concrete Written by Global Cement staff 19 May 2021 Sweden: Researchers at the department of architecture and civil engineering at the Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg in Västra Götaland county are developing a technology to enable concrete to store energy in the manner of a rechargeable battery. The team has proposed a design based on cement mixed with short carbon fibres. The concrete is then fitted with a metal-coated carbon fibre mesh that forms the battery’s anode and cathode. The team says that a future product based on the technology would enable solar-powered roads and buildings to store their own energy. Additionally, the introduction of sensors to the system would enable full and constant monitoring of the condition of the structure. ....
Concrete battery for applications in buildings, rooftop PV A prototype of a cement-based battery has been developed in Sweden for potential applications in buildings. Its creators claim it could become a solution to store electricity from rooftop PV and they do not exclude that it could also be used for the storage of large-scale renewables.Scientists at the Chalmers University of Technology in Sweden have developed a prototype of a rechargeable battery based on cement with an average energy density of 7 Wh/m2. Although the new storage technology is described as being at a very early stage of development, its creators are convinced that the device has . ....
A man sustained serious injuries when a piece of concrete fell on him Saturday afternoon in the Heart of Chicago neighborhood on the city’s Lower West Side,. ....
Concrete Roads vs Asphalt Roads | Understanding the pros & cons The first concrete road in India is said to have been built by the British in Chennai in 1914. Today, we are seeing a lot of arterial roads converted from asphalt to concrete roads. Most driving enthusiasts prefer asphalt, but the government seems determined to convert as many roads as possible to concrete. Concrete Roads Made of aggregates (crushed rock, sand & gravel), cement and water. Often reinforced with steel bars within the concrete. Advantages Concrete roads have a lifespan of between 20 to 40 years, which is two to four times longer than asphalt ....
