Judge orders Danville police officer to stand trial for manslaughter in on-duty shooting

Danville Police Officer Andrew Hall will stand trial on a voluntary manslaughter charge in the 2018 shooting death of Laudemer Arboleda, but a judge threw out a charge of assault with a semi-automatic weapon, saying at a preliminary hearing Tuesday the prosecutor didn t adequately prove the gun used was technically semi-automatic.
Contra Costa County Superior Court Judge Terri Mockler said there wasn t enough evidence showing Hall s claim of self-defense in firing 10 bullets at Laudemer was legitimate to warrant dismissing the manslaughter charge before trial. Hall s defense team argued that Arboleda was driving his car at Hall, and the shooting may have saved his life. ....

Contra Costa Sheriff's Office to report on 2020 immigration enforcement at Truth Act Forum

The Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office will report on its civil immigration enforcement activities throughout 2020 at the Truth Act Virtual Community Forum on Tuesday, July 27 at 9 a.m.
The Truth Act (AB 2792), which was signed into law by former Gov. Jerry Brown in September 2016 and went into effect Jan. 1, 2017, requires a local legislative body that has provided U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) with access to an individual during the last year to hold at least one public forum to provide information about that access and to receive and consider public comment.
Community members can participate in the forum via phone, email and Zoom. The forum can be streamed online here and can be watched on CCTV at AT&T U-Verse channel 99, Comcast channel 27 or Wave channel 32. Search for Philip Kreycik Further Scaled Back


Following a five-day search, which involved more than a dozen agencies from across California and nearly 300 volunteers, Pleasanton Police Department (PPD) and its allied agencies are further scaling down operations to locate missing runner, Philip Kreycik, 37.
Marking the last fully operational day of an exhaustive search, today consisted of re-doubling efforts and adding new sections, which included the area in Sunol canyon where “cries for help” had been reported. Unfortunately, during today’s search, a member of the search and rescue team suffered a minor injury.
At this time, no new evidence has been recovered.
“We appreciate the Kreycik family’s cooperation and patience during this difficult time, and we have the best resources here to help in both the search efforts and the investigation,” said Lieutenant Erik Silacci. “Every day, search and rescue crews and countless volunteers have been working nonstop to find Philip, and we ....
